Montreal

ACTIVE LIVING

While Point3's first goal is to improve our students’ language skills, we combine theory and practice with field trips, taking learning outside the classroom, and around Montreal to experience the city’s active lifestyle.

Montreal offers a host of activities to suit any interest and passion. From sport facilities to concert halls, movie theatres and museums, visitors can enjoy indoor and outdoor activities alike.

Depending on the season, sports buffs can enjoy a Montreal Alouettes' football game, a hockey night with the Canadiens or an outdoor game of soccer featuring the Montreal Impact. Summer is the season for car racing, when Montreal welcomes the Formula 1 Grand Prix and NASCAR races on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

For those who are doers rather than spectators, the city offers a magnificent bike and roller- blade path through Old Montreal, only a 10-minute walk from POINT 3. Bring a picnic and relax along the Lachine Canal!

You can take a stroll around Mount Royal’s walking path or even take your bike. You can head up to Beaver Lake to sneak in a pedalo ride. On your way back down the mountain, check out the beach volleyball courts across the street at Parc Jeanne-Mance. Anyone can play, so why not try to get in on a set! And, in the winter, ice-skating and sledding have become a tradition at Mount Royal Park. All this fun, and good exercise, is just a 15-minute walk or 5-min bus side from the Mont-Royal subway station.

For those who like swimming, take the subway to the Viau station for a dip in the indoor Olympic pool nearby. A few laps there and your heart will be sweating a little.

The city is filled with outdoor tennis courts open to the public for hourly reservations. You are sure to find one close to your living quarters...

Join in on the night life, by cruising the Quartier Latin or Downtown area for your choice of bars, bistros and movie theatres to catch a late night flick. If you’re up to it there are tons of places where you can get on up and dance!

For a big-screen sensation, be sure to check out the Imax Theatre located in the Old Port or Scotiabank Theatre downtown. Enjoy a traditional movie or experience a rock climbing expedition or a live concert. Check local listings for details.

Another option is to take a 10-minute cab ride to the Montreal Casino where you can try your luck or even take in a show, there are also several restaurants to choose from for a night time snack.

Skiing and other winter sports are about an hour away in the Larentians. There you can go snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing. Catch a bus from the downtown terminal and spend a day or so discovering the north and enjoying the snow.

Montreal is packed with fun-filled activities; there is never a reason to have nothing to do. Whatever season you come to Montreal… you’re sure to find some amazing activities and places to discover…
